Let's share our "Make A Difference" and "Invention" project ideas with each other. This collaboration will support our progress both as individuals and as a group.


Wakelee 4th graders

Karissa Andro - My project is to make a school newsletter for students. I am making it online so I do not waste paper. Each teacher will get one copy to read aloud to their class. I am working with Mckayla and Lilly.

Lillian Heisler - I'm working on a school newsletter with Mckayla and Karissa. So far we wrote about the Bubble Mania program for the whole school and a recycling program only the third graders got to see.

Mckayla Lawlor - I am working on a newsletter with Lillian and Karissa. We are going to have a fun page and we will have crossword puzzles, word-searches,mazes, and matching games.

Yvette Thibeau - For my independent study project I am going to teach people how to understand and make Optical Illusions. I am also making optical illusions and putting them into the girls' newsletter.


Wakelee 5th graders
Tianna Butkus - I'm doing an invention. It's a blanket that cools instead of heats for the summer.

David Lofgren - I'm doing an invention, to make a mini plow and truck so parents don't have to shovel. :)

Donaven Bianchi - I'm doing an invention. I'm doing a snowblower that salts. This invention will save a lot of time because you dont have to walk all the way back to the beggining and salt the whole thing."You can do it all in one walk down the path." <(")

Julia Williams- I am doing my project on bullying with Gabby Hamel. We will be going into the three kindergarten classes at Wakelee School and do lessons on bullying.

Gabby Hamel- I will be working with Julia Williams to develop a lesson plan for the Wakelee kindergarteners to educate them on bullying.

Taylor Dalton- I will be working on a project called Project Hometown Support. This project sends care to the soldiers over seas that are from CT. I met with Mae Flynn, the leader of this program and she sends many items herself to the soldiers. Nathan Lucas at Frisbie School is also working on this project.

Tyler Sgrott- I will be doing a project with Alex Hale on diabetes and trying to get people to exercise and eat better. I am also interviewing my dad.

Alex Hale- I am working on a project with Tyler Sgrott and I will be interviewing a Frisbie Project Explore student who is a diabetic. I made a diabetic healthy strawberry cinnamon smoothie.

Jayda Cavanaugh- My independent study project will be focusing on forensics, how they work and help police officers.


Alcott 4th graders

Amanda Bard - I'm working with Shane M. We are doing a project about the rainforest.

Shane McKay-I'm working with Amanda Bard. We are buliding a little rainforest with two cardboard trees a bridge out of cardboard and string and a flip chart under the bridge.

Olivia Burns - I'm working on a project with Fidelco guide dogs and I think I'm going to do a poster and cut it into the shape and make it look like a guide dog.


Evan St. Arnauld- I'm working on a project with DCF for suitcases for kids and I want to raise at least 100 suitcases. I am doing this project because I really don't like seeing kids have to carry their stuff in a plastic bag.

Patrick Fagan- I'm inventing an ice cream cone that has an edge on it that catches the drips so you can eat an ice cream cone without worrying if it will drip.

Dylan Tumel - I'm inventing a dog watering system so you don't have to bend over to get water in your dog bowl.

DJ Crispino- I'm trying to help stop animal cruelty. I'm working with Billy & Robert, we're making a website about it. I raised more than $649 at my B-day party for ARF in Terryville.

Lynette Jurczyk-I'm doing a project on veterinarians by myself. I might do a power point with it and add videos.

Alcott 5th graders

Caitlin Mahoney - My project is to perform a puppet play to preschoolers in my school and to create a website about endangered animals. I am working with Mattea and Raven.

Mattea Polzella- We (Raven, Caitlin, and Mattea) found research on our endangered animals that we are working on. We are constructing a puppet play to inform little kids about these animals. Our main project is to make a website.

Raven Cody- We're working on helping Endangered Animals. We want to do this because animals are a big part of our lives and our life cycle. Without them, the world would be much different.

Robert Snide - Billy and I are working on making a website to help stop and prevent cruelty to animals.

Billy Platt - Robert and I are calling the website Kids Fight Against Animal Cruelty. So far our headings are Home, About us, Facts, Donations, How to train your dog, How to spot abuse, and Reporting Cruelty.

Frisbie 4th graders

Conner Boisvert-For my invention I'm making a grill fire alarm. I am trying to use a empty can as a hot air balloon and it will push a piece of metIal swing and it will bend a bendable pipe and cause a chain reaction.

Victoria Burton-I am making a sheet straightener, so when you need to make your loft or bunk bed you don't have to stretch up and pull your sheets over your bed.

Matthew Iasevoli-I am doing a project on insulin pumps.

Avarie Powers- For my project I will be doing Crayons for cancer and a Cup grabber. The cup grabber will grab hard to reach cups for its main purpose.

Taylor Cratty, Lauren Sullivan, Alia Higgins - We are working with Taylor and Sam. We are calling our Earth day celebration Go Green Day. We are having the celebration at Peterson Park From 2:00-4:00 on Saturday April 30th. Please save the date! There will be raffles, contests, and FUN!!! If you carpool, you will get an extra raffle ticket. Invite as many people as you can to come so that we have a good turn out. We want to reach all 12 steps of sustainability. Go to

Frisbie 5th graders

Daniel Kubrynski- I am doing my project on exercise and diet. I am making a graph for someone I know to see if they can lose 10 pounds. I am going to make a plan for them to reach their goal.

Nathan Lucas-I am doing a project on solders to give them care packages overseas. I've got lots of reseach and are trying to send out an article in the community news. Please give ideas and help if you would like to.

Jillian Noack-For my project, I am designing a food and exercise journal which I will give out to fourth and fifth graders. The reason I am doing this is to inform kids about how much they should be eating and exercising a day.

Wenting Zheng- I am doing an invention for my independent study project. I want to make a steam proof clock to put on the shower so you can see the time.

Erin MacDonald- I am doing an invention this year for my independent study project. I am going to make a pet carrier that lets your pet feel safe, because it is pressed up against your body with its head sticking out.

Samantha Hickey- I am doing a Keep CT Cool Climate Challenge. It is a competition that includes the 12 steps to sustainability. We are having an Earth Day celebration on Saturday April 30 from 2:00-4:00 at Peterson Park (we will tell the judges about to win money for our school). At Earth Day there will be lots of stations like a recycling station, a raffle, and a recyclng art project station.

Taylor Riviezzo- I am working with Samantha Hickey on my project. We are making a website http://wpetripler.yolasite.com/ and an Earth Day celebration. It is on April 30th at Peterson park along with that we are doing a Keep CT Cool Climate Challenge.

Maia Regan- I am doing a project on autism. I am making and selling braceletes to raise money to donate to the organaztion Autism Speaks. I am also sponsoring a walk for autism on June 5 at Rentchler Fields in East Hartford. You can donate on the website www.walknowforautismspeaks.org.
